arkadymac.com is an official media partner for Pinoy Otaku Festival 2014: Fantasm last weekend at Starland Themepark, 4th Level, Starmall Alabang. Lots of fun, excitement and surprises were in store for everyone as the organizers have promised an experience unlike any other. We’re now bringing you the highlights for Day 2 of this event.
Helping us with today’s coverage are our Features Writer and partner Jillian Rose and our Cosplay Model Aerielle Pauline. They most certainly had fun going around the theme park and taking photos with everyone.
Pinoy Otaku Festival 2014: Fantasm was dubbed as the “First Ever Live Action Role Play Event with Cosplay for a Cause,” as the event had free admission. All that was asked of guests was to just bring one notebook plus an additional school item like a ball pen, pencil, crayons, etc., upon entering the venue. The school supplies would later be given to our less privileged brothers and sisters this coming school year. Britannia from the anime series Code Geass was brought to life through cosplay, the castle setting and also mass participation from those within the venue. Also, the event was also the biggest gathering of otaku-related organizations in the country with groups from Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Bulacan, Tarlac and Bicol joining in.
There were great booths like RiiRiichan’s OMise Shop where they offered Anime Dimension Cards, an amazing app for mobile devices where you can have 3D images of your favorite anime and Vocaloid characters on your phone. Do contact RiiRiichan’s OMise Shop at https://www.facebook.com/ADC.OMISE for your very own cards.
Throughout the day, the event was kept exciting by the performances of great bands and dance groups. Highlights of the event included the continuation of the Asia Music Festival Karaoke and Bandslam, a collection of singers and bands who performed Japanese songs and also some local melodies to the delight of the audience. There was also the Cosplay Checkers game where cosplayers were used as checkers pieces playing on an 8×8 board. The main event was the Fantasm Cosplay Lives, the first cosplay competition which aimed to recognize “realism” in cosplayers and their characters. This competition was presided by judges each focused on one criteria which includes difficulty, realism, engagement and costume.
Event partners included Spin Manila Bus TV, Hero TV, Cherry Credits, Dragon Nest, Avatar Star, The Philippine Events. Mozilla Firefox, Rocx Tees, Great Toys Online, Cubizone Philippines, Age of Kung-Fu, Mogu-Mogu, O-MIse, Comics Sale Central, Wakfu, I Wear Contact Lenses, Para Kordon, Project Wangun, YJC, Adarna House, Glue N’ Stitch and Punk Sinatra.

With lots of guests and participants attending the affair, Fantasm was definitely a success. We hope that there would be more similar event in the future where cosplayers are given a lot of freedom and given a whole new different experience. Everyone who participated got to help to as boxes upon boxes of school supplies were collected to be donated this coming school year.
