The ultimate celebration of all things science fiction and fantasy begins as Nexcon 2: Heroes Rising opens for its first day at the fresh new venue of SMX Convention Center at SM Aura in Taguig City. As one of biggest gatherings of genre fans and creators from the Philippines and beyond, it continued to be a spectacle for fans both old and new who have been yearning for an event that caters to their special interests. arkadymac.com is a media affiliate of NexCon 2, and we are glad to bring you the highlights of Nexcon 2: Heroes Rising, Day 1.
On its second edition after a successful inaugural event at the Bayanihan Center last year, Nexcon 2: Heroes Rising promised to be the ultimate gathering of superhero, sci-fi and fantasy fandoms in the Philippines, with lots of unique attractions and special guests to keep things fun and interesting.
Our reviews writer/cosplay model Yanna was there to help us out with the coverage. She cosplayed Bloody Mary (Kathryn Cressida) from the game/comic “The Wolf Among Us“.

There were booths for merchandise and interesting stuff.
During the Anino Comics Panel, it was a pleasant surprise that “Dead Balagtas” had a good following among the crowd (*raises hand as well*). Here are some photos and a video clip for Anino.

One mainstay of Cosplay.ph events is “Face Palm the Music” which entertains the crowd and give the human buzzer a sore face. Carlo Pagulayan and Jason Paz from Marvel Comics also signed and drew commissions.
With the popularity of the Jimmy Fallon spinoff “Lip Sync Battle”, Lip Sync Kombat promised and delivered the goods as the Civil War rivalry of Tony Stark and Captain America lit up the stage.

The main event of the day was Cosplay Rumble where pre-judged contestants performed and showed off their costumes to the judges and the crowd. The judges were Marko Villaluz, Miguel Mercado, and Jin Joson.
Here’s a playlist of some of the performances. We were only able to record around 5, so apologies to those who we didn’t catch as our view kept being obstructed.

There was also “Take Cover” where contestants submitted their version of Comic Covers using their Cosplay Photos. The entries were judged by Reskiy, John Wong and Adrian Arcega.
Those who attended are saying that Nexcon = Bestcon, and we can’t blame them as the event was fun and enjoyable. Thanks to Cosplay.ph for having arkadymac.com as media affiliate and more success to you guys.
