More than others, Deric is a cosplayer who loves mixing it up with the crowd. You’ll find him at cosplay events and conventions being surrounded by people who wish to have a picture of him, or better yet, with him. He’s quite popular in and around the cosplay circuit, but he just takes in who stride and would rather just have a great time with the people who know him.
For this feature, Deric poses for us as Sakamaki Izayoi from Mondaiji-tachi ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sō Desu yo? (Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren’t they?), a Japanese light novel series with an anime adaptation. Izayoi is one of the main characters who gladly left his old world for a new one in the hopes of finding more excitement and adventure. He is overconfident and haughty, yet he is also shown to be caring and protective of the people around him.
Deric says he got into cosplaying because he was really into anime and games. Until now he enjoys watching series like DGray-man , Chuunibyou , HOTD , SnK , KnB , Accel World , AnoHana , Ao no Exorcist ,Btoom! , Campione , Highschool DxD , CodeBreaker, Cuticle Tantei Inaba , Fate/Zero , Tonari no Kaibutsu-Kun and many more. He is also one hardcore gamer who enjoys playing almost all the genres he can get his hands on: strategy, FPS, horror, monster , romance , zombie , farming ,RPG , adventure and many more.
As to what kind of characters he likes cosplaying, he says he loves portraying characters who have sad, tragic pasts. For variety, he also admits to liking assassin-type characters with funny personalities. When asked if cosplaying is challenging for him, he answers that he’d rather think of it as a hobby for expressing his love for anime and games. It’s probably the reason why he enjoys it more than most people. He says he gets the most excitement when he’s facing large crowds.
For now, Deric says he’s happy being with the crowd. As he poses for them and with them for the cameras, he remembers another reason why he started cosplaying and why he keeps on cosplaying: he loves kids. He is very glad that his cosplays can make kids smile. That for him gives the sense of fulfillment he can’t get anywhere else.
