We are excited to be part of what has been Asia’s biggest and longest running convention and event for wonderful things called toys, games, collectibles, cosplay, anime, comics, and whatever may find itself in between. Indeed, ToyCon is a much anticipated event, and we are glad to bring you our special coverage starting with Day 0: Ingress and preparations on the eve of ToyCon 2014, considered the biggest pop culture event in the country.
As we scanned today’s ingress, we were of course overwhelmed with the amazing number of exhibitors and retailers who had their merchandise already on display. Collectors and enthusiasts will surely be pleased with the bewildering number of toys and other collectibles on display and for sale.
What caught our attention was the Rurouni Kenshin booth where they’e promoting the second and third installments of the trilogy. Besides photos and posters of the movie, Warner Brothers, the distributor for the movie, flew in and had put on display the actual costumes used for the movie. It was great of course being able to see and feel an actual piece of the movie, and just made my excitement of watching the next films all the more unbearable.
Also to rave about are the great gaming companies featuring their hit and up-and-coming games. Be sure to visit them for free trials and lots of freebies.
We also dropped by our friends at Cosmic Bytes Cosplay Shop and found these really adorable fans. Do drop by their booth to see all of the great new products they have on display.
The we have our friends from PID Clothing, where they have cool anime and game inspired hoodies on display. Their designs are truly creative and unique. I for one would love to have their new Nightwing-inspired hoodie, especially as it’s getting rainy lately.
Highlights of ToyCon 2014 include Batman’s 75th Anniversary tribute and display area, upcoming movie The Guardians of the Galaxy feature, the Tenth Anniversary of the Star Wars 501st Philippine Outpost, G.I. Joe’s 50th Anniversary celebration, and exhibits of Filipino contributions to the comic book industry here and abroad.
Of course, cosplay will be our focus with the special appearance of the world’s most prominent cosplayer, Ms. Alodia Gosiengfiao, as she will be busy performing for the ToyCon audience as well as judging the cosplay competition and meeting fans at her booth. ToyCon will also be hosting the Philippine Finals of the World Cosplay Summit which has had qualifiers at other events including ToyCon’s Epic Launch at Resorts World Manila (see our coverage here).
Special groups and bands will be having performances all throughout the three-day event to keep the event exciting and lively, with a special kick-off party on the first evening.
