A year full of exciting cosplay events starts off in a big way with the first major event on our calendar, Otaku Expo 2015, and arkadymac.com is happy to bring you our coverage of Day 1 as a media partner. As with their other events like Ozine Fest, Otaku Expo strives to be the venue where fans of Japanese pop culture, anime, manga, and cosplay and other enthusiasts can gather to share their hobbies and interests with others. Attendees were treated to a great new year opener with lots of attractions and booths inside the venue.
Helping us out are our arkadymac.com team members: Ai Chi, Jillian, Kami, Kaloy and Keileen, with our Cosplay Model Mikki. Besides doing coverage work, they made sure to enjoy themselves as well.
The first day of Otaku Expo featured the Battle of the Bands contest where talented new musicians battled it out performing covers of well-loved songs from anime. Special guest performances also livened up the day and sent Hall 3 rocking.
Members of Team MARCH, a group of experienced and decorated cosplayers, had a workshop/demonstration on the basics of costume crafting.
Other sidelights included Gundam model kit building, the anime card game tournament, a gaming section, and other stage activities that saw nice prizes given away.
Unveiled was the promo for the Ozine Fest event scheduled this summer, featuring a delightful roster of international guests. We’re excited about it, of course, and we’ll be updating you about it very soon.
Due to the huge number of attendees who come to enjoy and support the event, the organizers of Otaku Expo were gracious in opening Megatrade Hall 2 to the public, which was of course well appreciated by everyone.
The Slam Dunk Cosplay group we featured a while back was there to make a special appearance, and everyone just couldn’t get enough of them, taking photos of and with them. They told us they have another big project shoot in the works, so do stay tuned for that.
Lots of cosplayers went to the event to have fun with the crowd, and we were of course there to take photos of them having fun with con goers, mall patrons, and of course, each other.
We’ll be updating this post soon, as we need to prepare to cover Otaku Expo 2015: Day 2, so do visit us again. Thank you.
