The biggest e-sports competition and gaming convention of the year got to showcase all that is fun and exciting about games as ESGS 2015: put on a great event for Filipino enthusiasts to enjoy. After a successful inaugural event last year with over 6,000 attendees, this year’s E-Sports and Gaming Summit is even bigger, occupying Function Rooms 1 to 4 of the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, and inside could be found an amazing lineup of exhibitors and attractions from all over the world, like industry giants Sony Playstation and Ubisoft. ESGS is organized by Gariath Concepts and co-presented by PLDT Home and GameX.
arkadymac.com has been a media partner since last year’s event, so we’re glad to be able to bring you the action again as we did this year’s coverage. Our Cosplay Models Nicolette and Irene were there to help us bring the highlights of ESGS Day 1.
ESGS is all about video games. Filipinos are known to be some of the most passionate, devoted, and enthusiastic gamers in the world, and whether it be for consoles, PC or mobile, there were great games for attendees to enjoy by themselves or with others at ESGS, along with the many new gaming innovations and gadgets from companies such as MSI, Razer and Samsung.
Sony PlayStation was one of the biggest exhibitors there as they presented one of their latest games and one of their most popular titles, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, with attendees getting to try it out for themselves at their booth. Seeing PlayStation at ESGS is pleasant sight as they have not been an exhibitor at any Philippine event for the longest time, and they even got to hold the first-ever Call of Duty: Black Ops III tournament in the Philippines.
French multinational video game developer and publisher Ubisoft was also there to present their latest games, the wildly popular Assassins Creed as well as arcade and console favorite Just Dance 2016. Ubisoft also accepted resumes from applicants who were very eager to work for them. The staff said that they were very interested in acquiring Filipino talent for their studio based in Singapore.
International game developer and publisher Wargaming.net presented their hit massively multiplayer online games World of Tanks and World of Warships, with attendees getting to try them out for themselves to do battle against other players.
X-Play got to promote the NBA 2K Online game, with tournaments scheduled soon.
Free-to-play action game Bloodline Champions also got to showcase their game, and we got to meet their great cosplayers as well.
ESGS also introduced a new brand competition called Brawlfest. It was a tournament featuring comprised of 14 different fighting game titles co-organized by several gaming communities. It was a delight of course for us fighting game fans as the tournaments were really exciting and action-packed.
With e-sports becoming an steadily growing phenomenon in the Philippines, ESGS put the spotlight on these engrossing games, holding a bewildering variety of tournaments like the Mineski Pro Gaming League Grand Finals of the DotA 2, Dragon Nest and Hearthstone and Crossfire titles.
This year, ESGS bridged game developers to hardcore gamers by exhibiting the finest independent games through the PLDT Home / GameX Indie Game Showcase. The Indie Arena was an area that was specifically made for independent games from various developers to feature their games to the public at ESGS.
Cosplay was a part of the festivities too, with an exciting cosplay competition on stage. They got to have amazing performances in front of an appreciative crowd.
At the end of the program, awards were handed out to the various winners of the various gaming tournaments that concluded that day. As for the cosplay competition, Christian Umali as War Machine and Izaiah Luke Buelos won the top spots, taking home some really great prizes from the organizers and sponsors.
An exciting first day at ESGS came to a close, but there is still more in store for gamers as there was still a full Day 2 head, with our coverage coming soon.
