The number of cosplayers that weekend alone was mind-blowing that you’d wonder where all of them came from. And maybe that was just it: they came from everywhere. One would be surprised at how many individuals of all walks of life make this yearly pilgrimage from all over the country and beyond. Some you’d see at every event; some you’d get to see only once a year. Cosplay Mania is a phenomenon, bringing together people who enjoy and love this unique hobby for a weekend of fun and camaraderie.
On its second day, even more people flocked to the SMX Convention center, all eager to take part in this yearly spectacle. You’d see as many kinds of costumes as the cosplayers who wear them: gaudy, flashy, quirky, outrageous, creative, hilarious, absurd, adorable, all well thought of for this special occasion, some preparing all year just for it.
The arkadymac.com team is no exception of course as we all love cosplay, and we all took the chance to just enjoy cosplaying with those who share the same love we do. It was my third anniversary of cosplaying, so even though it was… challenging, I still did an entire day of event coverage in my ANBU costume, seen here being given the very efficient (and painful) modified Boston Crab submission maneuver by our good friend Gaby Swan.
Our team members Nicole, Jillian, Irene, Yanna and Kaloy were there to enjoy being in the middle of the action as well.
It was sad that in between covering the many events and attractions of Cosplay Mania, we didn’t have as much time to take photos of cosplayers, so all we could do was take some quick shots. We all admire their dedication and love for the hobby of course, and that we admire all the effort, creativity and hard work that went into each and every cosplay.
We also got to see our good friend Alecx with her friend as Cosplay Medics who were helping out their fellow cosplayers with the many troubles associated with their costumes.
We also got to see many groups who love the same series or fandom. Some have known each other for years, others through online groups, others just formed then and there. In the end, every cosplayer loves his or her chosen cosplay and that we shouldn’t be too critical about details, and often what would matter most is the fun one has cosplaying and the new friends gained from sharing a common passion.
It’s sad that there wasn’t enough time to take photos of everyone, some of whom only get to cosplay once a year, so we hope we can get the chance to take photos of everyone in the future. Thank you, and keep cosplaying till next Cosplay Mania.
